Robert George Nikkel was born January 7, 1925 in Wasco, California to David and Freida (Enns) Nikkel. Bob attended Maple Elementary School and graduated from Wasco High School. Bob went on to attend seminary and the University of California in the Bay area. He served his country during World War II in the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant and being honorably discharged in 1946. Bob worked in sales for over 30 years, his last job being with Dole Sales Company selling health and life insurance. Bob is survived by his son, William A. Nikkel; sister, Alice Bauman; cousins, Ed Nikkel and wife Alma, Katherine Frantz and husband Roger, Peggy Kroeker and husband Leland, Mervin Voth and wife June, and Carol Enns and husband Don Nikkel. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Robert George Nikkel, age 83, of Shafter who passed away August 4, 2008. Pastor Pat Coyle of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church will officiate and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 7 from 2pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
