Bob passed away Friday morning, January 20th after a difficult battle with cancer. He was born and lovingly raised in Taft, CA by his parents William (Bill) and Nora Long. He had fond memories of growing up in Taft and enjoyed lifelong friendships with several of his childhood buddies. He would always have a grin on his face when sharing stories from his youth about building and launching rockets, motorcycle riding, and the other mischievous adventures with his friends. While attending Taft College he worked at the 11-C Market where he met his first wife Kathy. Shortly after they were married, Bob and Kathy moved to Shafter, CA and Bob became Manager of the Shafter, 11-C store. Shafter became their home for many years and they raised their three beautiful daughters, Tisha, Kari and Lisa there. The family attended the Valley Bible Church and enjoyed fellowship in many activities. Bob also enjoyed playing on the 11-C Market Softball Team. Once Bob began raising his family he decided to make a career change and took a job with Chevron. Bob worked at Chevron for 32 years holding numerous positions at various locations in the San Joaquin Valley. During this time he made many dear friends that he loved and respected. In 2008 Kathy, Bob's wife of 34 years, passed away. At that time, little did he know that he would fall in love again and remarry. Bob and Karen (KJ) joined together in marriage on December 11, 2010 at Cayucos in the presence of family. Although their time together was short, they made the most of it going on trips and enjoying family. We have happy memories of family swim parties where Bob barbequed something special with one of his "secret" marinades. The grandkids will always remember Pa Pa's "school, school, school, school" song reminding them on Sunday evenings that they had to get up bright and early the next day for school. Bob was a loving, kind, gentle person that will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Long and his first wife, Kathy Long. He is survived by his mother, Nora Long of Taft, CA; wife, Karen (KJ) Long; daughters, Tisha Long, Kari Zachary and husband David, who reside in Bakersfield, CA, and Lisa Villalpondo and husband Richard who reside in Shafter, CA; brothers, William II (Bill) Long and wife, DeAnna, and Bruce Long who reside in Taft, CA; grandchildren, Taylor Long, RJ Villalpondo, Courtney Zachary, Caleb Rodriguez, Ryan Zachary, Isaiah Villalpondo and Lucas Villalpondo; and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. We want to thank nurses Sandy Bradley and Madelyn with Optimal Home Health for the loving care they provided. The family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 25, at the Shafter Cemetery.
