Obituary

Robert Joseph Carey was born November 22, 1928 in Mitchell, South Dakota. Bob was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Following his graduation from Creighton University School of Law, he went on to become a special agent with the FBI. He also worked as a contract administrator with North American Aviation during the Apollo Space program. Bob later obtained his MBA from USC and spent his last decades of work as a college administrator for Yuba Community College District and retiring from the Kern Community College District. He married his beloved wife, Nellie Ann Weber, of Colusa, California on July 3, 1976 and has resided in Bakersfield since 1984. He was a former member of the Bakersfield Racquet Club and has been a longtime parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Bob is survived by his wife Nellie of Bakersfield; sister Florence Kruse of Denver, CO and brother Matthew (Lynda) of Pullman, WA; children Anne Carey of Santa Maria, CA, Daniel Carey of Chandler, AZ, Patrick (Kathryn) of San Marino, CA, Matthew Carey (Anita) of San Jose, CA and Eileen Carey-Rodgers (Jim) of El Cerrito, CA; stepchildren Greg Weber (Lynne) of Coulsa, CA, Mark Weber of Willows, CA and Michele Shain (Michael) of Bakersfield, CA. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Intensive Care and the Telemetry Units at Mercy Hospital for their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held at St. Philip the Apostle at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
