Richard Ramirez was born December 21, 1933 in Wasco, Ca. to parents Rejino and Maria (Jaimes) Ramirez. Richard served in the Army from 1954-1956 as a member of the 508th Airborn, Red Devils; then upon returning home, he married in 1959 to the love of his life, Victoria (Munoz) Ramirez. He was a fixture of the Shafter community, well-known and outgoing; he was a fan of numerous sports, and was an avid runner. Richard could be seen exercising around town, and his passion for running took him to numerous events, from 5k to 10k and even running marathons when he could. Richard was a hard working man who loved to keep busy, but he also enjoyed gardening, listening to music and dancing to relax. Richard's family will always remember his sense of humor and his giving nature. He was a loving father and grandfather and cherished the times that he was able to spend with his family, including his favorite little dog, Kirby. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Rejino and Maria Ramirez; and his siblings, David, George, Ruth, Rosa and Anita. He is survived by his wife, Victoria; his children, Ignacio Robles, Richard Ramirez Jr., and Rudolfo Ramirez, Mary Ann Salas, Felicia Jara, Angie Robles, Mary Alice Salas and Jovita Melero; 18 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by close family friend, Andros Aguero; sisters, Alice Reza and Julia Villapondo; as well as, family pets, Suavecito and Pequeno. A closed casket visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 5-8pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese's Catholic Church on Friday, Sept. 30 beginning at 10am, Father Pedro Umana will officiate and burial will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
