Richard Kent Johnson 1926-2012 Richard Johnson was born in Dinuba, CA. on July 27, 1926 to Earl and Christine (Woodfin) Johnson. Richards family moved to Shafter in 1938, where his parents started and operated Johnsons Department Store. Richard attended Richland School and then Graduated from Shafter High. Richard enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radio operator onboard the U.S.S. Cape Johnson. After his honorable discharge he went to work for Superior Oil, then onto BJ Hughes, where he worked as a salesman. Later in his career, Richard operated Johnson Tool Company, specializing in various tools for the oil industry. Richard was very social, and truly enjoyed meeting and talking to new folks. He was also a bit of an outdoorsman, he enjoyed backpacking in the mountains, but he also loved the ocean; he always had a boat and loved being out on the water. "Dick" was also know for is culinary gift, he often hauled his favorite pan (Big Bertha) on his backpacking trips, where he cooked for the camp. Richard was a proud member of the local Elks lodge, Shiners' group, and Masonic lodge. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Christine Johnson; and his brother, Donald Johnson. He is survived by his son, David Johnson of Shafter; daughter, Vicki and husband Franz Affentranger of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Michael Johnson and wife Charlie, and Joseph Affentranger.
