January 20, 1925 – August 30, 2007
Born January 20, 1925 to Theodore and Frances Armijo in Bakersfield, CA. Ray grew up in Bakersfield, attending local Catholic Schools. He joined the Marines and then the Army as a Light Machine Gunner, proudly serving a tour of duty during WWII. He received the Purple Heart and several other distinguished medals. He married his one true love, Emma, on May 28, 1949. They had four children, Michael, Diane, Frank and Rick. He worked for California Motor Express for 34 years, before the company closed, and then for the Greenfield School District for about three years. He was a Big Red fan of the Bakersfield College Renegades and a true San Francisco 49er fan, also a lifetime member of the Local Eagles Lodge aeri 93. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Emma; daughter Diane Santillan, son Frank Armijo & daughter-in-law, Mida; son Rick Armijo & daughter-in-law Betty; seven grandchildren, Renee Santillan, Rosalina Santillan, Rosario Joshua Santillan, Melody Armijo, Joseph Armijo, Anthony Armijo & Aaron Armijo; & one great grandson, Eric Veleta. Loving Brother Theodore Armijo II & sister-in-law Petra; sisters Helen Gonzales; Juanita Tinoco & brother-in-law Fred; Dorothy Romero; & Phillip Armijo. And many nieces & nephews and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his oldest son Michael; his parents Theodore & Frances Armijo, brother Frankie; sister Delores; and brother Ernie. Ray was a man strong in faith, he was loyal, loving and devoted to his wife and family. A kind, gentle and giving person who brought humor and joy to all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by us all, but will live on in our hearts always. A Special thank you to the Alzheimer's Association, Optimal Care; Optimal Hospice & AGAPE for their support through this difficult time. Especially Jennifer McClintock, Dr. Jennifer Black & Kristina. Pallbearers: Anthony Armijo, Aaron Armijo, Joseph Armijo, Rosario Joshua Santillan, Richard Gonzales & Nick Hernandez. Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Tinoco, Anthony Romero & Ted Armijo III A Visitation will be held at Hopson-Anspach Mortuary from 5 – 8 pm on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin 9:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at St. Francis Church Wednesday, September 5, 2007, interment will follow at Union Cemetery-Garden of Roses
