Rankin
February 5, 1930 – August 15, 2013
On August 16, 2013, The Lord called Randal Lee Rankin home. Randal Lee Rankin was born June 2, 1930 in Wayne Oklahoma. His family moved to Greenfield, California in 1938 for a short while finally settling in Wasco, California. Randal graduated from Wasco High School with the Class of 1949. Randal was a very accomplished athlete and currently holds the Pole Vault Record to date. He then joined the Coast Guard and was the Keeper of the Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, California. Randal married Billie Thurman of Wasco and had three daughters Cherylee Wegman Craig, Carol Terry, and Julie Nadal. Randal married Mary Lee Semar in 1971 and spent his remaining 49 years with her. Randal was very versatile and held many occupations. These occupations include a carpenter, crop duster pilot, trucking company, business owner, farmer, and the head Greens Keeper at the Wasco Valley Rose Golf Course. Randal loved his wife and family, friends, and fun. He owned numerous boats moored in Morro Bay and frequently took gangs of friends for prime fishing trips. Randal loved sports such as Go Carting, golfing, scuba diving, bowling, motorcycling, flying planes, fishing, you name it he tried it. Randal loved his trips with his daughter Cherylee to Oklahoma to visit his family. Randal loved going to his grandchildren's sports events and games. Randal was very active in the community. He was a founding member of the Elks Lodge 2419. He assisted with building the Wasco Little League baseball field. He could always be seen helping at the Elks fireworks booth. Randal is survived by his wife Mary Semar; sister Maxine & Terell Mills of Forgan, OK ; daughters Cherylee and Warren Craig of Wasco, Carol & Vard Terry of Bakersfield, Julie & Aaron Nadal of Bakersfield; Scott & Donna Semar of Bakersfield; grandchildren Connie & Freddy Wegman Robledo of Wasco, Vard Jr. & Vanessa Terry of Bakersfield, Cory Terry of Bakersfield, Daniel Terry of Bakersfield, Aaron Nadal Jr. & Jaime Nadal, Gabriella Nadal of Bakersfield; Dominic Nadal of Bakersfield; Lauren Semar of Anaheim; Morgan Semar of Bakersfield; great grandchildren Madison Terry, Caleb Terry, and Travis Terry. He was preceded by death his mother, Pearl Moore Rankin, his father, Lee Rankin and his brother, Jack Rankin. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 21, at 10am at Wasco Memorial Park for Randal Lee Rankin, age 83, of Wasco who passed away August 16, 2013 in Wasco. Officiating the service will be Pastor Dennis Hilken of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bakersfield; Chaplain Madeline Elsea of Optimal Hospice; and Wasco-Shafter Elks Lodge #2419. Kern County Associated Veterans will conduct military honors and interment will follow. A reception following the graveside services will be held at the Elks Lodge. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20, from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
