Obituary

Ralph Wattenbarger of Bakersfield passed away on July 2, 2010 at his home. Ralph was born in Niota, Tennessee on January 19, 1916 to Charlie and Annie Wattenbarger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; brothers, Doyle, Roy and Lester. He is survived by his sons, Tim (Linda), Bruce (Marge) and Chuck (Terry) all of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Kristin Fredrick (Scott), Andy Wattenbarger (Kristie), Kelly Fredrick (Kurt), Nathan Wattenbarger (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Haley, Sophia, Emma and Paige Fredrick, Brayden, Briana and Mason Wattenbarger. Ralph graduated from Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, Tennessee. He moved to Bakersfield when he was 19, years old. He married Juanita on July 16, 1941 and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2007. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theatre making the landing at Normandy on D-Day. Upon his discharge he returned to Bakersfield and began constructing homes. He was involved in construction most of his life. He served on the Standard School Board for 25 years. He loved hunting, fishing and playing golf. We want to express appreciation to dad's caregiver, Melody, for her loving care. Visitation will be held at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 2 to 8pm. A funeral service for Ralph will be held Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 10:00 am in the chapel at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
