Obituary

Pierre (Uncle Pete) Arrayet April 26, 1925 – October 14, 2011 Pierre was born in Irouleguy, France to parents Jean and Marie Arrayet. He moved to Colorado with his brother Louis in 1950 and the two worked as sheep herders. In 1974 Pierre moved to Bakersfield, where he worked as a gardener until he retired last year. Pierre was an honorary member of the Kern County Basque Club, and he attended all functions held by the club. Some of his favorite hobbies included dancing and playing Mus every chance he got. He even traveled to play in Mus tournaments, most notably traveling to the Mus World Championships in Chile. Pierre was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Marie; his brother, Eduard; and one sister Catherine. He is survived by his siblings in the U.S., Louis, Jean, Arnaud and Marie; as well as, those siblings still in France, Desire, Gabriel and Marie Leonie; and his numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for Pierre will be held at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary, from 2-8pm on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011. A combined Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial service will begin at 9:30am, on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Agwu will officiate the service and burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Martin Etcheverry, Jean Arrayet, Daniel Etcheverry, Jean Claude Etcheverry, Raymond Arrayet, Marcel Membrede and Martin Brana
