IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy Joyce
Kroeker
December 4, 1931 – September 25, 2020
On Friday, September 25, Peggy Kroeker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 88. She was born Peggy Joyce Nikkel on December 4, 1931, in Shafter, California. She attended Maple School and graduated from Shafter High School in 1949. In 1950, she married Leland Kroeker, and they lived and farmed on Orange Street in south Shafter until Leland's death in 2012, and Peggy's move to Carrington of Shafter in 2019. The focus of Peggy's life was her family. While she spent some time working out of the house, her main occupation was homemaker for her husband and children. She enjoyed planning holiday dinners and cooking for her family, and knew everyone's favorite recipe and dessert. She loved having everyone over for a meal and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family all loved her chicken soup, but her most popular recipe was her dinner rolls, which were a special treat for holidays. Her faith and church were also very important to Peggy. She became a Christian at the age of 6, and was baptized into the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church on April 16 1944. She began volunteering for the church while in high school, playing the piano for services at Myrick's Corner, then at the South Shafter Labor Camp. In 1953, Leland and Peggy became charter members of the South Shafter M.B. church. Peggy played the piano and the two of them were involved in the music, Sunday School classes and youth program. She also enjoyed participating in Bible Study Fellowship, where she was a discussion leader. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruby; her brothers, Leslie, John and George; her sister, Kathy; her husband, Leland; one son, Robert and two grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Linda, Janet, Richard and Michael; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
