Pearl Jane Settlemire was born December 8, 1916 in Henrietta, Oklahoma one of six children born to Elizabeth Frances (Young) and Henry Edward Uecker. Pearl came to California during the dust bowl days and the family settled in Wasco where she met Ivan Virgil Settlemire and they were married May 16, 1936. She served her family as a homemaker and was very good at hand crafts; quilting, sewing and crochet were her favorites. Pearl was able to work on her quilting squares until the last few months. She was a devoted mother to her 8 children. Pearl was preceded in death by husband, Ivan who passed away September 30, 1977; her parents and all five of her siblings, Hershel, Wade, Ed, Jewel and Gertrude; 3 sons, Virgil, Wylie and Randy; and 1 granddaughter, Lisa Reaves. She is survived by her sons, Gary and wife Shirley of Missouri, Keith and wife Linda of Lancaster, Ricky and wife Barbara of Bakersfield and Wendell and wife Cheryl of Bakersfield; daughter, Gail Reaves and husband Ted of Taft; daughter-in-law, Elaine; 26 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 2, at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Pearl Jane Settlemire, age 95, of Bakersfield who passed away July 26, 2012. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 1 from 4pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
