Paul Michael Oshel was born May 19, 1952 in Denver, Colorado to Georgia (Rowe) and Warren Oshel. He was raised at the China Lake Naval Base, educated in base schools and graduated from Burroughs High School. He went on to earn his degree in civil engineering from San Diego State University. After college he moved to Bakersfield, then Wasco before settling in Shafter where he had lived for the past 23 years. Paul and Kathy Patterson Bateman were married May 31, 1986 in Wasco. Paul worked for Semi-Tropic Water Storage District as District Engineer for 35 ½ years. He worked for the District's consulting engineering firm before Semitropic, so he helped in the building of some of the facilities. Paul is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy Oshel of Shafter; brothers, Tom Oshel (Donna) of Florence, Oregon, Jon Oshel (Ginny) of Beaverton, Oregon and Brian Oshel of Walnut Creek; step-sister, Karen Mahoney (Jim) of Palmdale. He was very close to many of his loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 8 at 1pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter for Paul Michael Oshel, age 63, of Shafter who passed away December 1, 2015 in Bakersfield. A viewing will be held Monday, December 7 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
