Paul Lester Moreland was born September 27, 1927 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Joe and Rella (Ballard) Moreland. He grew up and received his education in Oklahoma and later moved to California. Paul settled in Kern County living in Wasco and Bakersfield for the last 40 years. He worked for the California Department of Forestry as a fireman for 12 years then became a pump supervisor for Belridge Farms where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Paul and Lois (Martindale) Shaw were married June 10, 1983. Paul enjoyed fishing and camping. Paul loved talking on his CB radio and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a member of the VFW Post #26 and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Paul was an ordained deacon and served with the Fairview Southern Baptist Church. He was currently a member of the Valley Baptist Church. Paul is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lois; son, Michael Moreland of Oklahoma; daughters, Pamela Harrison of Florida and Cheryl Johnson and husband Ernie of Oklahoma; brothers, Johnny Lundy, Elsie Moreland; sister, JoEtta Rogers, all of California; 9 grandchildren and many loving great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, mother of their five children; son, Paul Moreland, Jr.; daughter, Paulette "Judy" Moreland; and grandson, Luther. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home, Wasco on Thursday, March 13 at 10am for Paul L. Moreland, age, 80, of Bakersfield who passed away March 10, 2008 in Bakersfield. Dale Edwards will officiate the service and interment will follow. A visitation will be held, Wednesday, March 12 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Wasco.
