Paul Edward Keeley (1932 – 2011) Paul Edward Keeley, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at the age of 78. He was born on April 6, 1932 in Gaston, Indiana to parents George Mart Keeley and Irene Lucille (Harris) Keeley. He was a man of great faith. He was an active member of the Shafter Church of Christ for over 45 years, serving as an Elder for 20 years, currently serving as a Deacon and involved with worship assemblies and various ministries. He was married to his grade school sweetheart and love of his life, Nina Mae Tappan, for 56 years. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy, he completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Purdue University and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in Plant Physiology. He, Nina and their 5 children journeyed to Shafter, CA in 1965 when he began his career with the USDA Cotton Research Station as a researcher in weed control. He remained a resident, serving the community he loved for the rest of his life. He was a member of the board of the Shafter Historical Society and a former member of Kiwanis. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Mary Knotts and brother Charles Keeley. Surviving are his wife Nina Keeley, children, Jeanne (Bill) Bonthius of Hayden, Idaho, Anne (Jeff) Taylor of Visalia, California, Mark (Leann) Keeley of Wasco, California, Janese (Ron) Treddenbarger of Kennewick, Washington, Jerry (Susan) Keeley of Pinetop, AZ, sister Trudy (Dave) Umberger of Yorktown, Indiana, grandchildren Erica Mann, Tate (Jennifer) Siemens, Tyson Mann, Jeffrey (Mallory) Bonthius, Mitchell Mann, Lindi Bonthius, Cole Siemens, Jeffrey Taylor II, Jodie (Ian) McKelvey, Janeil Mann, Blaine Taylor, Jeremiah Keeley, Elijah Keeley, Krista Keeley and Kali Keeley, great grandchildren Eric Mann, Hannah Siemens, Emma Coxen, Hunter Siemens and Tucker Gribble, nephews, Don Knotts, David Keeley, Bryan Keeley, nieces, Connie Dow, Lytricia Scott, sister-in-law, Janette Johnson. Memorial Service will be held at the Shafter Church of Christ, 850 Minter Avenue, Shafter, California, 93263 on Saturday, February 26th at 10:00 am. Graveside service to follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Peters Funeral Home located at 844 E. Lerdo Hwy, Shafter, California 93263.
