Obituary

Paul's story starts in Sweden. His parents, Augusta and Selma, emigrated from there in 1890s and met at a Lutheran Swedish dance. They got married and moved to Denver, Colorado. Augusta bought a Signs of the Times magazine there for 10 cents because he liked the pictures. Shortly after that they moved to Idaho and purchased property in a place called Buhl. It was there that Paul entered this story. He was born on September 22, 1920—the fourth of six children: three sisters and two brothers. While in Buhl, during the long, dark winter, Augusta remembered the Signs of the Times magazine that had been packed into the truck of the car and found it, read it, and ended up joining the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Farm life on 20 acres kept the entire family very busy growing potatoes and wheat and raising the livestock necessary to work the fields. Paul lived at home and attended the local Syringa school district for eight years. Paul's high school years were spent at Gem State Academy in Nampa, Idaho. After graduating from academy, he went on to Walla Walla College in Walla Walla, Washington, where he earned his bachelor's degree in theology. While at WWC, Paul married Jacqueline Evers on August 28 in the old German church in College Place. From College to Work Paul and Jackie moved to Montana in 1947 when he was hired by the Seventh-day Adventist conference to be a teacher and pastor. During his 13 years in Montana he taught at Mt. Ellis Academy and pastored in most of the church districts in the state. At that time, church districts were made up of four to six churches plus the extra ones the pastors were encouraged to start. It was 1960 when the family moved to Arizona. Ten years later Paul and Jackie moved to Southern California and then they moved onto Central California. Retirement Years After retiring out of the Oakhurst Adventist Church, he moved back to Shafter and helped build his retirement house, orchard and garden. Later in his retirement years, he moved to Santa Clarita and then to Loma Linda. When he lived at the Loma Linda Villa he enjoyed the company of two of his sisters and their husbands, plus many more colleagues who either lived there or came by to visit. Paul outlived his two brothers and three sisters. He was married for 65-plus years. His wife, Jackie, passed away in February 2013. He has four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, which was his wedding anniversary.
