IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul Vincent
Charon
August 18, 1939 – September 20, 2016
Paul was born in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Katheryn Charon. He lived most of his years in Southern California. Paul was always in the grocery business, starting as a box boy at 16 years old. He progressed through the years from store manager to district manager and so on. Then he realized his dream of owning a supermarket and opened Shafter Apple Market in 1997. Paul met and married Mary Crabb in 2004. They chose to live in the city of Shafter where they built a wonderful life filled with love, family and friends. Paul loved being part of this community as demonstrated through his participation in many local activities. He served on the board of directors with the Shafter Chamber of Commerce, in Community Chest, and was a proud member of Kiwanis. It was his passion and privilege to help with these groups and support the community events and programs. His love and respect for the employees at Apple Market was more than just employer to employee. He truly cared about them and their families. Paul appreciated the commitment and support he received from his employees and especially during his illness. They kept the store running successfully for the last year and a half. It is Paul's intent for Mary to keep Apple Market open to serve the Shafter community. When Paul was 20 years old he traveled throughout Europe for a year with his best friend, Fred. Upon return to the states they both joined the Army for two years. Later in Life he enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary and also many trips with their food friends. When looking through some of Pauls' papers after he passed, we found a questionnaire he had filled out. He listed his father Walter as the person he most admired. He said his father taught him to always do the best he could "from brushing his teeth to building a bridge." Paul listed "walking with my wife around the yard in the evening" as one of his favorite pastimes. His favorite saying was "the glass is half-full." Paul is survived by his wife Mary; four children Lisa Richmond, Christina Feezor, Alicia Tracy, Phillip Charon; step-son Gavin Crabb; grandchildren Anthony, Amber, Sara, Cate, Audrey, Olivia and Mia; step-grandchildren Charlotte and Hazel; sister Ellen Sheppard and Patricia Van Gorder; many nieces and nephews. He will be profoundly missed by all. Paul was preceded in death by his brother Phillip during childhood, his father, mother, and sister Martha Wall. Paul peacefully passed at home with his devoted wife and his sister by his side. Paul fought bravely to the very end. We would like to thank each of you for the outpouring of love, support, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:30 at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern Street, Shafter, CA 93263.
