Patrick "Pat" Dewayne Newman, 70, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2023. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and wife of 49 years. Pat showed tremendous courage and strength battling his illness over the past few years. Despite the pain and fatigue, he never complained and remained strong until the end.
Pat was born on September 12, 1953, in Wasco, Ca. He was the second of seven children to Hugh "Oscar" and Rita (Holtermann) Newman; Jeff Newman, Patrick Newman, Vicki Newman, Valerie Vibe, Stanley Newman, Teresa Scott, and Kenny Newman. During high school, Pat enjoyed playing tennis. As fate would have it, during one of his tennis practices, Pat would meet the love of his life, Terry (Johnson), as she walked home from school. Pat and Terry had 3 children: Ryan Newman, Arianne (Jeff) Crafton, and Lynsie (Matt) Kamppi.
Pat was an entrepreneur, in the 70's he founded his own business Bakersfield Pest Control. In the 80's, Pat took his family back to Wasco, where he grew up, and took over J&J Market. In the 90's, Pat started an ice manufacturing company "New Ice" and became the Director of the Wasco Labor Camp for farm labor housing. Most recent accomplishments was founding Wasco Affordable Housing and serving as the Executive Director for 20 years. Pat wanted to help people and make a difference for those with lower income. Pat's Senior farm labor Housing project is posted in Washington DC and recognized as the first in the nation. Pat received the "Businessman of the Year" Award.
One of Pat's proudest accomplishments was becoming a Papa to 6 grandchildren: Mason, Dawson, Garrett, Chaeson, Grant, and Hope. Pat loved spending time as often as he could with them, and loved rocking them in his chair.
Most weekends were spent with his wife Terry at their beach house with family and friends. Pat also loved to golf with his buddies. He earned a hole in one at the Wasco Valley Golf Course.
Pat always had a strong work ethic, he started working when he was young. Pat can finally rest and be at peace. Patrick was preceded in death by: Rita Holtermann Newman, Hugh Oscar Newman, and Jeff Newman.
