IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Bernita
Putnam
July 31, 1914 – February 12, 2008
Pat, known as Bernita to her parents and siblings, was the eldest child born to Frank and Hazel Rogers in Dundee, Michigan, on July 30, 1914. She loved to go to dances and enjoyed singing with her sisters. Pat attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She briefly worked for Good Housekeeping as a fashion graphic artist. She married Bill Putnam on December 23, 1941 and moved to the military base at 29 Palms, CA. After the war, God led them to purchase an airport near 29 Palms. They both realized how much they loved the warm, dry climate, desert flowers, and creatures such as the hundreds of turtles that migrated across their property. Bill and Pat re-located to our valley desert at Minter Field of Shafter, CA. An Air Force buddy invited Bill to partner in Inland Crop Dusters. This avocation would dominate their lives for the next several decades. While living in Minter Field, Bill and Pat became Christians and began a true relationship with Jesus Christ. This became the integral focus of their lives and has been embraced by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Pat served God in her church, Valley Bible Church. She used her artistic talents and arranged flowers weekly for more than 20 years. She wrote songs and whistled tunes which she kept in a volume called "Pat's Praises." Her primary service to her Lord was raising three daughters and four sons. She made music a major part of her home as she scrubbed ears, fingernails, and kitchen floors. Bill and Pat spent 15 years of retirement traversing the United States in their Airstream. Pat enjoyed sketching pictures of Bill, landscapes, and barns. Her son, David, and husband, Bill, preceded her in death. Pat spent the rest of her days writing copious notes, shopping on the television networks, and praying for her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, 57 total. She is survived by two sisters, Betty Foote and Marilyn Hochschwender, and her children, Janice and Noel Wilson, Diane and Mark Vincent, Bill Putnam and Kristin Chardon, Bryce and Dona Putnam, John and Cathie Putnam, and Lyn and Perry Ware. Mom, we know you are a young girl again, dancing, this time for Jesus. Keep singing "Pat's Praises" to Him for all eternity! A graveside service at Shafter Memorial Park will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 for Patricia Bernita (Rogers) Putnam, age 93, who passed away February 12, in Bakersfield. A memorial service will follow at 12:30pm at Valley Bible Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
