Patricia was born on January 11, 1941, to Charles and Jennie Hopkins, in Patterson, Arkansas. In 1949, Pat moved with her family to Shafter where she lived and raised her family. In 1999, she married Dub Smithson with whom she happily spent the remaining years of her life until his death in August of 2006. Patricia was preceded in death by her dad, Charles Hopkins in 1981, and her brother, Ron Hopkins in 2005; these losses were very significant in her life. She is survived by her mother, Jennie Hopkins of Shafter; brothers, Bill of Las Vegas, NV., and Mike Hopkins of Bakersfield; sons, Scott Estes of Shafter, and Michael Briggs of Bakersfield; daughter, Pam and husband, William McElroy of Shafter; grandchildren, Natalie, Tyler, McKenzie, Garrett, Blake and Kendyl; great grandchildren, Kira, Kaeleb, Gracie and Elizabeth; Patricia also shared a special bond with Dub's children, Deanna, Janet, Dennis and their families. A funeral service was held at Peters Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 3pm, for Patricia Jean (Hopkins) Smithson, age 66, of Shafter, who passed away January 25, 2007, in Bakersfield.
