IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela Gail
Nunez
December 18, 1958 – August 29, 2023
Pamela Gail Leone Nunez (64), of Bakersfield, CA, passed away on August 29, 2023, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma, with family by her side.
Pamela Gail Leone Nunez was the third child born to Elmer and Ella Leone on December 18th, 1958. She was born at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi where her father was stationed. Later the family moved to Vandenberg Air Force Base where Pam began her early elementary schooling. Soon after the family moved to nearby Vandenberg Village where Pam attended Buena Vista Elementary and Cabrillo High School. In high school Pam excelled in softball and marching band, ultimately winning the 1976 CIF State Softball Championship
After graduating from high school Pam attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education and fulfill her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. Pam spent her entire 35-year teaching career as a third-grade teacher at Wasco Elementary School District. Early in her career, Pam continued her education to earn a master's degree in education at CSUB.
While attending Cal Poly Pam met her future husband of 41 years Joe Nunez. Together they raised a family spending the rest of their lives together. Pam loved spending time with her two sons, Kyle (Cara) and Aaron (Nicole). Many weekends and vacations were spent at the boy's baseball and basketball games as they grew up. Pam was always happiest when the family was together vacationing and experiencing new places. More recently happiness was spent watching the grandkids play sports, attend dance recitals, and watching them grow. Spending time in the mountains and sitting among "her trees" brought immense joy to Pam. Pam had a special love for Mammoth Lakes and her cabin in Camp Nelson. As her family grew older, she found a new love in life which was her pugs. She volunteered at several pug rescue organizations and fostered many pugs in her home, much to the dismay of her husband. Pam was committed and found a purpose later in life to protect animals in need while bringing happiness and joy to others around the world. Pam once flew to Maine with a blind diabetic pug to deliver to a family from Canada. Then there is Pam's beloved Los Angles Dodgers. Rarely did a day go by without Pam watching her favorite baseball team on TV.
Pam is survived by her husband of 41 years Joe Nunez and her sons Kyle (Cara) and Aaron (Nicole) and siblings Nancy Twitty (Frank) and Terry Leone (Dawn). She is also survived by her grandchildren Caden, Klaire, Karsyn, Colby, Jayce and Madilyn. She also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and numerous friends and colleagues.
The family wishes to thank the all the doctors and nurses at Adventists AIS Cancer Center, Adventists Hospital and Encompass Health Rehabilitation for the love and care they provided. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Tiny Paws Pug Rescue.
