Ouida E. Sloas was the first born daughter of Joe H. Copeland and Lizzie M. Ford in West Fork, Arkansas. Ouida is preceded in death by husband Burl VanZandt of Wasco, Ca, George Ashbaugh of Shafter, CA, and John L. Sloas Sr. of Shafter, CA; son David K. VanZandt of San Jose, CA; ; brothers Foster F. Copeland and D. Bruce Copeland both of West Fork, AK; sisters Wanda Ruth Derry of Lufkin, TX and Leota Copeland of West Fork, AK. She is survived by her sons Richard D. VanZandt and wife Sharon of Corcoran, CA and Fred and wife Mary Ann of Porterville, CA; step sons John Sloas Jr. and wife Nicky of Tehachapi, CA; step daughter Marge Seimens of Shafter, CA; brothers Joe H. Copeland Jr. of Prairie Grove, AK and Jack R. Copeland of Lufkin, TX; sisters Mary A. Findlay and Neva Joy Biggs both of Lufkin, TX; sisters-in law Marilyn Copeland of West Fork, AK and Flora Ethel Copeland of Mission Hills, CA. Ouida leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. She loved gardening, canning and spending time with her family and friends She was truly loved and will be sorely missed. May her soul rest in God's embrace. Viewing and family visitation is scheduled for Thursday July 25, 2013 from 2-8pm at Peters Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services for Ouida will be held at the Congregational Bible Church of Shafter on Friday July 26, 2013 at 10:30am followed by internment at Shafter Memorial Park.
