July 31, 1939 – February 23, 2013
Opal Lee Sikes was born in Maze, Kentucky, on July 31, 1939 to Richard Lee Barnett & Anita Mia. Opal and her family moved to Exeter, California when she was 3 years of age where she grew up and attended school. She met and married the love of her life Luther Lee Sikes and was married for 53 years. Opal worked at Grow Pack, Belridge, Grimmway and Premier Packing as a Packing Shed Operator for over 37 YEARS. Opal passed away on February 23, 2013 of a vehicle accident. She was a resident of Shafter, California. Opal was a member of the Seventh Standard Pentecostal Church of God for over forty five years. Opal was the godliest woman you ever met and at anytime she could spread the word of God to everyone she met. The lady prayer meetings were her favorite day of the week, other than being in the house of the Lord. Opal always had her doors and arms open for anyone that needed a helping hand or prayer. Opal is survived by her daughters Diane Lakin, Carrie Shepherd, Tammie and husband Dale Fout; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband Luther Lee Sikes who passed away in 2008. Services for Opal are held at the 7th Standard Pentecostal Church of God on Thursday February 28, 2013 at 11am. Viewing for Opal will be at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday February 27, 2013 from 4-9am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to 7th Standard Pentecostal Church of God.
