Ofrinia Ortiz Alvarado went to be with her Lord and Savior quietly at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday night, March 16, 2010. She was born in Austin, Texas to Selestina (Gutierrez) and Gavino Ortiz. She married Alfonso Alvarado in Monterrey, Mexico and together they brought the family to Kern County in 1951 where they raised their children in a warm and loving home. Ofrinia was quiet, detailed and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ofrinia was very active at her home church, Apostolic Church in Lamont, prior to her battle with Alzheimer's. She was a wonderful cook; the family meals she prepared were almost always accompanied by warm home made tortillas. Her home was kept orderly and her home was surrounded by a beautiful garden; she looked forward to spring time so that she could start attending her flowerbeds, pulling weeds and gently potting new flowers giving special attention to her rose bushes. Her family remembers her being attentively captivated by her novellas in the evenings. All who knew, loved and shared time with her will miss her. Ofrinia Ortiz Alvarado was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Alvarado (1984); children Alfonso Jr., Antonio and Graciela Alvarado. Her daughter Mary Alvarado; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large extended family survive her.
