IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman Sol
Bartel
January 22, 1950 – August 2, 2012
Norm was born in Shafter, Ca. on January 22, 1950 to Ernest and Josephine Bartel, both residents in the farming community of Wasco, California. He grew up on the family farm, just outside of Wasco and attended Wasco High School. He farmed with his dad, until his dad died in 1978, at which time Norm took over the family farm. Norman married Marcia Albert in 1969 and they eventually purchased acreage next to the family farm. They continued farming as they raised their two sons, Scott and Daniel. In 1990 they moved their family to Bakersfield but continued to farm the family owned land. Norm was outgoing and had many friends as a young farmer. He was active in M2 Sponsors and various agricultural organizations. He loved horses and enjoyed participating in riding and roping events as a boy and young man. Norm's passion was aviation. He earned his pilot's license and loved flying his Beechcraft Bonanza and then a Christen Eagle aerobatic airplane. He enjoyed frightening his mother with his flying stunts over the family farm and giving his children, niece, and nephews fun rides in his airplane. Norman was 62 years old at death on August 2, 2012. He is survived by his son Scott, wife Jackie, and their 4 children (Emily, Kennedy, Kaitlynn, & Calin) of Bakersfield, his son Daniel, wife Amber, and their 2 children (Bella & Luke) of Bakersfield, his mother, Irene Josephine (Jo) Bartel , of Rocklin, Ca., his sister Bev and her husband Gary, of Rocklin, Ca., and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Cousins, Bob, Phil, and Jerry Klassen and friends, Randy Gafner and Barbara Judd, provided special care as Norm's health declined. A graveside service will be held at the Shafter cemetery, on August 13 @ 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service @ 11:00 a.m. at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. 400 Kern Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Teen Challenge. Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
