Norma Noral Royal was born in Springer, Oklahoma on April 15, 1915 to Thomas and Nora (Gillum) Smith. Norma came to California in 1945, shortly after the dust bowl. She worked in agriculture for many years before becoming an operating room technician for 25 years. She had an 8th grade education, but was extremely smart and business savvy, which helped her earn her certificates in medicine. Norma always had an open door to her home welcoming family and friends. She was a good cook and shared her meals with everyone. She was what you called an "Oklahoma Woman". Norma was also a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Arvin. Norma was 99 years old when she passed away on December 29, 2014 in Bakersfield, California. Norma Noral Royal is preceded in death by her husband, who she shared 48 wonderful years with, her children, Frank Wesley Royal, Ruby Joan Meyer, and Norma Ruth Stone. She is survived by her son; Carlos William Royal and wife Donna; daughter; Winnie Joy Royal and 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great- great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be officiated by Pastor John Smith on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10am at Arvin Funeral Home. Interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District in Arvin.
