Norma was born April 9, 1927 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Mary (Friesen) and Jacob R.M. Jost. Norma, the youngest and only daughter was welcomed by four older brothers, Titus, Francis, Marvin and Harry. Norma and Bennie Plett were married November 4, 1945 and they raised 3 children; a daughter, Dee Robb and sons, Michael and Lynn. They lost their first son, Rodney, at birth. She enjoyed attending all her children's events including games, PTA meetings, and church and community activities. Norma and Bennie were married 32 years when he passed away in 1977. Norma moved to Clovis, California in 1978 to be near her daughter. She then married Leland Bergman on December 14, 1981 and the couple made Shafter, California their home. Norma was always active in church and in her younger years sang in church choirs. She was currently a member of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Norma was the last member of her generation in the Plett Family and now Elsie Jost, wife of brother, Marvin, is the only survivor of the Jost Family. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, husband Bennie and son, Rodney. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Lee Bergman; daughter, Dee Robb; sons, Michael (Jeanne) Plett and Lynn (Brenda) Plett; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also survived by Lee's children, Kathy (Lawrence) Handel; Joel Bergman; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 19, beginning at 10am at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church for Norma Bergman, age 85, who passed away April 15, 2012 at her home in Shafter. Pastor Pat Coyle will officiate the service. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery in Lehigh, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Carrington of Shafter. Checks may be made payable to Carrington of Shafter, 250 E. Tulare Ave, Shafter, CA 93263; in memory of Norma Bergman. Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
