Obituary

Nola Torix, aged 86 years, passed away peacefully asleep in the early hours on Friday, February 13, 2015 in Bakersfield, California. She is celebrating a new residence in Heaven at last. Nola was born the daughter of John and Jennie Smith on September 18, 1928 in Stidham, Oklahoma. Her siblings included sisters; Sybil, Mildred, Hildred, Ibra, Leona, Flora and Lucille. She had one brother, Quinton. Nola married at the age of seventeen to Roy (Red) Torix age nineteen, they were married for 44 years when Red passed away in 1990. Nola was a very loving, caring and sincere woman, whom many greatly adored. She was called friend by so many, always ready to help one in need. She was hard working from an early age in the cotton fields of Arvin, to working by Red's side in their trucking business in Idaho as book keeper and dispatcher with a fitting CB handle given to her by Red, "Boss Lady"! Moving back to Arvin in 1978, she soon went to work for the Arvin Senior Citizen Center where she made many friends and worked several years. All the while staying active in church with a servant's heart, and very close to God, her power of prayer was felt by so many. We were fortunate enough to be adopted both as infants although eight years apart, by the most devoted and respected woman we would grow to know. As a mother none could compare in our eyes, as she once wrote "We were born not from beneath her heart but from within it." She proved to be the glue of our family throughout her life. The one we all respected and went to for wisdom, prayer, and yes even a laugh too! Often called a favorite sister, aunt, cousin and friend she will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her. Nola is survived by both children, daughter Teresa Moore and Russell Musquez, daughter Stacie and Donnie Merryman; grandchildren, Ashlie and Arica Phillips, Jessica and Edward Hopper, Preston Musquez. Great-grandchildren, Kaiden Hopper and Zaya, Amaya and Christopher Musquez. The family respectfully wants to mention that Nola cared for and considered others her children and grandchildren as well, nephew Kindell Gillen and family, Jetton Torix and family. There were others along the way, our Mother had a heart of gold. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday February 18th at 10:00am and viewing beginning at 9:00am at the Trinity Family Fellowship Church 115 Monroe St. and Bear Mtn. Blvd, Arvin. The family invites those who wish to the home of granddaughter Ashlie and fiancé Kenny Despot immediately following at 9813 Cimarron Trail Dr., Bakersfield 93311. Arrangements are under the direction of the Arvin Funeral Home, Arvin.
