IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nell Louise
Garrison
October 11, 1926 – April 6, 2017
Nell Louise Garrison passed away peacefully on April 6, in Bakersfield, California. She was born to parents Encell and Verna Mae (Peak) Chinnis on October 11, 1926 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She attended Shafter High School for three years and finished her education at Bakersfield High School. She had a taste for fashionable clothing and was always well dressed. Nell married Thomas S. Garrison in 1944 and began raising her family, living in Garrison City, Pixley, then Shafter. When she wasn't caring for her family, she spent her free time reading detective stories and listening to music. She truly loved her children, who inherited her love of music. Later in life as a single woman, she was there when her children needed her. She especially enjoyed birthdays and holiday celebrations. She made many friends for life while working in the clothing departments at JCPenney and Brock's and fitting shoes at The Hub. During retirement her main activity was reading murder mystery novels and taking care of her beloved cats. She socialized with old Shafter High School friends and her best friend, Gayle Holmes, now living in Oklahoma. She also enjoyed the friendship of neighbors in her condominium. Nell will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas S. Garrison II and daughter Kathryn June Stearman. She is survived by three sons, Ted Garrison and wife Andrea, Tom Garrison and wife Deb Looker, and James Garrison. Grandchildren are Neal Stearman and wife Melissa, Angela Stearman, and Amy Garrison. Great grandchildren are Jimmy, Kathryn and Evean. Her viewing and graveside service will take place on Friday, April 14th. The viewing will be from 10 to 1 at the Peters Funeral Home and the interment will take place at the Shafter Memorial Cemetery on Santa Fe Way at 2 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the Peters Funeral Home at 844 East Lerdo Highway, Shafter CA. 93263.
