IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nathaniel

December 1, 1929 – December 26, 2024
Nathaniel Houston was born in Okemah Oklahoma on December 1, 1929, to Luther and Buelah Houston. He was the second oldest of 11 children. Nathaniel learned responsibility and developed a strong character at a very young age. As a pre-teen he often went fishing and hunting to ensure there was food for the family. He entered the Korean War arena in 1951. He was shot and wounded and left service in 1954. It wasn't until 70 years later that he was finally awarded the Purple Heart for his valour in the war. From his marriage to Sally Washington, 4 children were born: Regina Houston- Swain (husband Houston) Pamela Houston- Ham (husband Michael) Nathaniel Houston Jr. and Christopher Jerome Houston (wife Rose). From his marriage to Bertha Thompson, Treniece Houston- Stonehill was born. He was also father and provider to Joey Thomas, Gilbert Thomas, Mark Thomas (wife Kim) and Martin Thomas (wife Janice). In addition to his children, he leaves behind several grandchildren including Alichia Love, Tiffanie Love, Mark Love, Lauren Ham, Marie Houston, CJ Houston. Christie Davis, La Trina Houston, La Toya Houston, Precious Houston. Nathaniel Houston III, Teddy Thomas, Sammi Thomas. Zackary Thomas, Katrina Frame-Panciera, Andre Thomas, Andrew, and Belinda Thomas. He was also beloved by his many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Although he came from a very humble background, Nathaniel was loved, respected and admired by all who knew him. He was a model of perseverance in the face of great adversity. He leaves a legacy of strength and endurance for his descendants. In addition, for his many years working for the US postal service, he used his various skills to help provide for his children. His great legacy will endure. His mother Buelah was a God fearing and God trusting woman. She imparted these principles to her children. Over the years of his life Nathaniel came to have a greater understanding of and love for God. He communicated this to his children. In the end he believed and trusted God for eternal salvation. Until we meet again Daddy…..Rest in Peace.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalms 23
