Murray George Evans was born June 19, 1925 in Wasco, California to Elmer & Beulah (Mouser) Evans. Murray married Ellen Barling October 13, 1943 and then went to serve his country during World War II in the US Navy, earning the rank of Seaman First Class and being honorably discharged December 30, 1945. Murray worked in agriculture for 35 years, mostly in the citrus groves and retired as a ranch foreman from Fairland Citrus. Murray was a member of the Wasco Masonic Lodge for many years. After 61 years of marriage, Ellen passed away September 21, 2004. Murray is survived by his son, Murray and wife Kim Evans of Fresno; 5 grandchildren, Shane Evans, Shaun Evans, Ted Tackett, Craig Tackett and Shawnee Collins; 9 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Opal Spitzer. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, at 11am at Shafter Memorial Park for Murray George Evans, age 83, of Wasco who passed away August 4, in Shafter. The Delano-Wasco Masonic Lodge will officiate the service and nephew Andrew Barling will present words of comfort.
