Obituary

Montie Don Mootry was born in Inola, Oklahoma on December 26, 1933. Montie was one of eight siblings to Katherine (Wilson) and Thomas M. Mootry of McFarland. He met Norma (Kendig) in high school and they were later married in Wasco and raised their family in Santa Maria, Wasco and Shafter. Montie began working at a young age and worked in various industries and retired as a heavy equipment operator doing land leveling. His hobbies were playing card games, hosting big family dinners, reading and watching western novels and movies, working on cars, but his favorite of all was talking on the CB radio. His handle was "Cotton Ginner" and Norma's was "Sweet Sue." He loved making creative CB antennas and was especially proud of owning the biggest one in town. Montie was a man of few words and was well respected by his family and friends. Montie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Jim; sisters, Annie Mootry and Betty Strunk and loving wife of 50 years Norma (Sept. 2004) and good buddy Sylvester Walker. He is survived by his sons, Ken and wife Linda, Don Irwin; daughters, Rebecca (Becky) and husband Rick Sharp, Susan and husband Joe Parra, and Katherine Garza; sisters, Doris Perkins, Judy and Sarah Mootry; 17 grandchildren (5 of which have been or are now in the Military), 7 great grandchildren; good high school friend, Henry and many friends and acquaintances. The family would like to thank the staff at Carrington, especially his favorite nurses Alicia, Joyce, Sonya and Fifi. Pastor Mike Polly from Valley Bible Church will officiate a Memorial Service for Montie on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1pm at the Peters Funeral Home Chapel in Shafter.
