IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Millard Kenneth
Hallum
January 31, 1926 – August 5, 2016
Millard Kenneth Hallum passed away at his home on August 5, 2016 surrounded by his family. Millard was a hardworking and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Millard was born in Haskell, Oklahoma to Luther and Mollie Hallum on January 31, 1926. Millard grew up on a farm in Haskell with his six sisters and two brothers. In 1944, Millard join the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He was part of the Greatest Generation, serving in the 20th Armored Division during WWII. They fought their way across Europe, ending in Germany where among other things, they helped to liberate the Dachau concentration Camp in 1945. After the War, Millard moved with his family to Arvin, California, after his father sold their farm. There he met Doris Jean King, and they were married on June 14, 1951. Soon after, Millard began working for the Kern County Road Department and continued there for over 30 years until his retirement in 1984. Millard and Doris raised their three sons in Arvin, and were very active in the community members for over 60 years. Millard was a past Commander of Arvin VFW Post 8809, President of Arvin High Lion's Club. In 2013, he was inducted into the Arvin High School Hall of Fame. Millard K. Hallum loved athletics, whether it be coaching, watching his sons play, supporting Arvin High athletics, attending the 1984 Olympics with his cousin Larry, or playing his favorite sports, especially golf. In 1955, he began coaching Little League, and continued coaching until 1975. While Millard is known for many things, he will always be remembered by anyone who knew him for his ornery attitude and jokester personality. He never failed to have an outrageous, yet witty, Okie saying for any situations, including one of his family's favorites: "Well butter my butt, and call me a biscuit!" Millard loved to share his stories, elaborated as they may be, about his mischievous days in Oklahoma with his many siblings. Millard was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, and sisters Florine, Mary Jo, and Johnnie. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Doris, sons Steve (Susan), David (Graciela), and Terry; grandchildren Erica, Cassie, Ariana, Jake, Alex, Juliann, Garrison, Jensen, and great-granddaughter Lyric; sisters Dorothy Price, Fern Claunch and Rose McCullers, brothers Dee and John and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Optimal Hospice along with the staff at Dr. Lee's office who assisted us with Millard's care. We would like to especially thank Millard's daughter-in-law Graciela for the loving care she provided both Millard and Doris the past four weeks. Services are scheduled for 9:00 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Arvin Cemetery at 15543 South Vineland Road in Arvin
