Mildred Lorene McDowell ("Mickey") was born September 16, 1927 in Okemah, Oklahoma, the youngest of five siblings. She grew up, attended the local schools and graduated from high school in Okemah. She married her love, Dana "Max" McDowell on April 11, 1945 in Reno, Nevada while he was in the Navy. They extended their love with open arms to their adopted son Terry Wayne McDowell who was suddenly taken from their loving home in a fatal car accident in 1968 at the age of 20. Mickey's passion was fishing, Max would drop her off at the Lake in Grinnell, Iowa while he went to work, then picked her and her catch up coming home. They attended church in Antioch and Pittsburgh (CA) where Max was a pastor and they both did missionary work. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed working with children. They retired and came to Wasco to be near her brother Troy. It was important for her to stay in touch with her family even though they were apart; Mickey enjoyed sharing her young adventures with nieces and nephews. Mildred Lorene McDowelll was preceded in death by her loving husband Max McDowell (2000); son Terry Wayne McDowelll (1968); brothers Billy Louis Jared (1984), Teddy Lorane Jared (1988), Troy Earl Jared (2000); sister Betty Irene Bleeker (2001). Survived by her loving family, Judy and Rusty Cronic, Keithie Turnquist; Phillip, Judy Jared, Tom Ruth Jared, Teddy Jared Jr. and Adrian Bleeker Jr. as well as many great nieces and nephews. Pastor Dean Long of Free Will Baptist Church of Shafter will officiate a chapel service, Thursday, May 6, 2010 – 1:00pm at Peters Funeral Home Chapel.
