Obituary

Milburn Wesley Lawson was born in Maud, Oklahoma on July 7, 1928 to Oscar and Ollie Lawson. He was the youngest of their 7 children. He passed away on April 1, 2025 in Bakersfield, California, with his family by his side.

When he was about 2 years old, they made the trek to Wasco, California to find work. He attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Wasco, graduating from Wasco High School in 1946, where he lettered in basketball. He was always proud to be from Wasco and a Wasco Tiger. He went to work for So Cal Gas in 1947. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War. He returned in 1954 and resumed his job at So Cal Gas.

In Wasco, he would meet his wife, Jane Lyle. They were married in Wasco, on August 31, 1957. They had 2 girls, Marian and Janet. In 1965, they moved to Bakersfield, California, as So Cal Gas had relocated there. He worked for So Cal Gas for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He and Jane loved to spend time at their house in Cayucos, California. Milburn was always busy. Whether it be working around the house, rock hunting, jewelry making, etc. Milburn and Jane were able to travel, visiting Europe, Greece, Canada, and many of the US states. Most summers were spent in Cayucos or helping take care of their grandchildren, Cara and Brian.

Milburn was a hard-working man and accomplished many home projects at their homes in Bakersfield and Cayucos. He loved people and never met anyone that was not a friend and was always willing to give a helping hand. He was always a positive, fun-loving person that was quick to laugh or tell a joke, which could be off color. But most of all, he loved his wife Jane and his family, which he showed in so many ways.

Milburn will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Jane; daughters Marian Luttrell (John) and Janet Brown (Dan); grandchildren Cara Cross, Brian Cross (Ashley), Seth Luttrell, and April Scott (Brian); 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.Special thanks to The Pointe at Summit Hills and Hoffman Hospice for their love, compassion and care during his final months. We can never thank you enough.

Services will be held on May 17, 2025 at 10 am at Wasco Cemetery, 300 Leonard Ave, Wasco, California.
