Melvin was born in Bakersfield, CA to Van Lee and Ethel Henderson. He was the youngest of four siblings Leondis (Leon) was the oldest brother, followed by sisters Valerie and Loretta. He was raised in Arvin, CA and attended local schools. Melvin was drafted into the Armed Forces in 1967, and was honorable discharged in 1969. He returned to Arvin where he made his home. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Van and Ethel, his brother Leon, and beloved son, Seth Lee. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki Nance Henderson, his son Seth Sheck of Reno Nevada, Daughters Milani Laerra, of Bakersfield, CA, Angela Marcus Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada and son, Dane Nance Ducker, of Arvin, CA. Grandchildren, Laini Rae and Dylan Todd Burkholder of Utah, Michael Edward Harvey of Bakersfield, CA, Wyatt and Dakota Smith, of Las Vegas, Nevada and Saxon Sheck of Reno, Nevada, numerous nieces and nephews. Some of his favorite things were riding his Harley, fishing with his boys and telling his Life Time" stories to all his friends and anyone who would listen. During his last days Melvin rested comfortably, knowing he had received his Lord and Savior, through the help of his good friend, Harry Gilkey. Melvin was cremated, as per his wishes. His place of interment is The Bakersfield National Cemetery, Friday, December 13, 2013 at 10:45am If you knew Melvin, you knew him to be a unique individual, who will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. There may never be another quite like him as I believe, after God finished making Melvin, He simply broke the mold. Rest in Peace, my love
