Maxie Augustine Graves was born August 20, 1931 in Amagon, Arkansas to Milford and Gracie Opal (Casey) Van Oven. She was raised in Arkansas where she and Vernie Graves were married on May 17, 1945. They later moved to Michigan and settled in Californian in 1964. Maxie, known as "Teenie" enjoyed the outdoors and the majesty of the mountains. She especially loved camping, fishing and hunting and the beautiful wildlife and wildflowers. Teenie loved hummingbirds and had a collection of figurines. She always kept her outdoor bird feeders full so she could enjoy their company in her yard. Teenie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Shafter Branch. Teenie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Vernie Woodrow Graves August 2, 1986 and by her daughter, Connie Arlene Rosado in 2004. Surviving family members include her sons, Vernie Graves, Jr. and wife Paula, Troy Graves and wife Tina, Milford Graves and wife Mona; daughters, LaVerne Bogan and Maxie Marline Graves and husband Arvle Wade, all of Shafter; sister, Brenda Holdway and husband Joe of Bakersfield; 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren (and 1 on the way), 1 great great grandchild; and many other loving family members. A graveside service will be held, Friday, September 28, 2007 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park with arrangements under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
