Obituary

Maudie Lucille (Armstrong) Graves died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 22, 2009. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Marvin Don Graves and by her children, Michele Nadine Graves; Martin Don Graves and his wife Sherry; grandchildren, Savanah and Erica Bean, all of Bakersfield; brothers, Garland Armstrong and wife Jo, Clyde Armstrong and wife Joy, Leslie Armstrong and wife Pam; and sister, Jewel and husband Gene Lytle. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Leo Armstrong, Cecil Armstrong, Janie Link, Clara Preston and Gene Armstrong. Maudie was born on May 17, 1940 in Rienzi, Mississippi to Charlie and Iva (Carson) Armstrong, and moved to Shafter in 1957. She graduated from Shafter High School and continued on to Bakersfield College where she studied voice. Maudie married Marvin Don Graves on July 9, 1960. Maudie was a consummate homemaker and cook. She loved to make pies and candy and loved singing choral and solo arrangements at her church and on other special occasions. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2009 at First Southern Baptist Church, 250 Kern St., Shafter, beginning at 9 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jim Williams will officiate. Immediately following the services there will be a pot-luck lunch in the fellowship hall, all are welcome. A private family interment will follow at 2:00 at Shafter Memorial Park. A very special thanks to Maudie's siblings and their families, the FSBC members, Betty's Sunday school class, Hoffmann Hospice, and all our friends.
