Obituary

A graveside service was conducted by Peters Funeral Home for Mattie Jewell Halcomb, 82, went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2006, in Bakersfield, CA. She was born to Lenuel Alonzo Bailey, Sr. and Elsie Cordelia Bailey on February 24, 1924, in Texana Oklahoma. She lived in Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas and California where she resided for the last 16 years. Mattie enjoyed cooking; at one time she was the head chef for one of the top ten restaurants in California. Her favorite hobby was crocheting, and knitting sweaters, booties, and blankets. She also liked spending time with her family and friends, until she was diagnosed with dementia about 8 years ago. As the disease progressed it slowly deprived her of the joy of living and the memories that we daily take for granted. Mattie was a fun-loving Christian, she taught Sunday School classes, and was the Sunday School Superintendent at the 36th and L. She also attended Planz Assembly of God and Sunshine Church where she enjoyed being in the ladies circle and made many life long friends. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Elsie Bailey; brothers, Frank, Sherman, Joe, Nathan, and LA Bailey; sisters, Velma Foster and Amie Hight; son, Glenn Allen Pierce; grandson, Brian Rogers. She is survived by sons, David Rogers and wife, Michelle, Wayne Rogers and wife, Deanna; daughter, Charlotte Trueblood and husband, Charles; granddaughters, Andrea Chrstian and husband, Shawn, Chelsea Herrington and husband, Robert, Natalie Bennett and husband, Jason, Sr., Kimberly Camp and husband, Jevon, Tamara Kulper, Mallorie Harding and husband, David; grandsons, Charles Trueblood, Jr. and wife, Crystal, Donald Trueblood, Jill Rogers, wife of grandson, Brian Rogers; great grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Berean, Justen, Ryan, Dawson, Alie, Tyler, Taylor, Leah, Lyndsay, Chase, Tristen, Jayden Colten, Samantha, Nathan, Michelle, and Amanda; sister, Bonnie Huff and husband, Tom; Numerous nieces and nephews
