Mary Adaline Sturgeon was born in Arkansas, on December 3, 1916, to Benjamin and Clara (Martin) Dugan. Mary began working with her family at a very young age; her father was a share cropper who traveled with the family from Oklahoma to California and back many times, making many memories along the way. She married Mance Sturgeon and the couple was blessed with the birth of a son, Manuel. The family then settled here in Shafter, and Mary worked as a clerk at the local grocery store for over 25 years. She was 98 years old when she passed away on September 1, 2015 in Shafter. Mary is survived by her grandchildren, Teressa and husband Chris Zucker, Connie Sturgeon and husband Tommy Maher; great grandchildren, Tommy Maher Jr., Roger Patterson Jr., Brandon Patterson and Sheldon Daynes. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Mance; and her son Manuel and daughter-in-law Floy Lou Sturgeon. A viewing will be Monday, September 7, 2015 from 4-8pm, at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. Graveside services will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 beginning at 10am.
