Mary was born October 7, 1947, in Hoboken, New Jersey. She was the second of five children born to Rudolph and Elizabeth Scheurich. She grew up on the East Coast and graduated from Rivier College in New Hampshire. Mary married John Gebhardt in 1969, and son Chris was born in 1970, followed in later years by Joe, Nick and Elizabeth. John and Mary lived in Virginia, California, Nevada, and Arizona before finally settling in California permanently. Mary taught at St. John's Catholic School, and then for the Wasco Elementary School District as a Kindergarten teacher until her retirement in 2016. She was a well-known and respected teacher in the community and started the education of generations of Wasco citizens. Mary believed in serving her church and community. She was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers, Wasco Junior Womens' Club, St. John's Womens' Club and the Community Reading Program. She was also a Eucharistic Minister for the St. John's Parish. Mary could be counted on to be at mass every week, and was a regular supporter at St. John's events. Wasco has lost a great woman, and her absence will be felt by all. She will be profoundly missed by her husband John, children Chris and Melody Gebhardt, Joe Gebhardt, Nick and Stephanie Gebhardt, and Elizabeth and Kyle Lowe. Mary leaves behind siblings Sue, Ann and Bill, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve her loss are her beloved grandchildren: Xzavier, Makenna, Ethan, Colin, Carter, Aryana, Gwenyth, Paisley, Reagan, Colbie, Hudson, Genevieve and Griffin. Services will be held on April 8th, 2022, at St. John's Church in Wasco. Rosary will be at 9:30AM with funeral services to follow at 10:00AM.
