Obituary

Mary Alice Cox was born August 8, 1927 in Crowder, Mississippi to Thomas and Elva Mae Stepp. She grew up in Mississippi and married Lee Roy Cox on November 7, 1947. They moved to California settling in the Rosedale area in 1960. Mary worked as a supervisor at the Mobile Chemical Company before she retired. Mary volunteered at the Rasmussen Senior Center and for the Ronald McDonald House and camp for kids with serious health problems. Mary enjoyed going fishing anywhere there were fish, but her favorites were Buena Vista Lake, Lake Isabella and Lake Nacimento. She also enjoyed camping with the family at Quail Valley. Mary loved going places, especially Las Vegas and Mississippi. Mary was a real people person and always struck up a conversation with the other bus passengers on the way to Mississippi. By the end of her trip she would have the names and addresses of all her new friends. Mary is survived by her sons, James Cox, Roger Cox and wife Paula and Thomas Cox, all of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Steven and Lisa Cox; brother, Aaron Stepp of Mississippi; sister, Earlene Montgomery and husband Bob, of Mississippi; and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Lee Roy Cox who passed away April 22, 1987; her parents and sister, Judy. A graveside funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter will be held Wednesday, January 30 at 10am for Mary Alice Cox, age 80, of Bakersfield who passed away January 26 in Bakersfield.
