Obituary

Martin Roque Jr. was born in Seville, California on September 19, 1932 to parents Martin Roque Sr. and Sabastiana (Motrico) Roque. Martin was devoted to his faith, family, and country. He joined the Army as a young man and was stationed at Fort Lawton , Washington during his tenure. After returning home, he married and his first wife, Helen Arias- Roque (1955- 2000) and started a family. Martin was a longtime member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Shafter, California, where he served as a teacher, worship leader, and deacon for many years. Martin married his second wife, Irma Espericueta- Roque (2001- 2003), after his wife's passing. He spent a lot of his time fishing, woodworking, and vegetable gardening. Martin was a hero to many and a man of God who loved unconditionally. Martin married Anna Cota- Roque (2006- present) after grieving the loss of his second wife. Martin was a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather, and great- grandfather. He entered eternal life on April 11, 2020 at his home in Shafter. Martin is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Cota- Roque; daughter, Martha Roque- Espericueta; son, Randel Martin Roque, 3 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren; stepdaughters, Denise Rodriguez, Valerie Salazar; 6 step- grandchildren, 8 step- great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Martin Roque Sr.; mother, Sabastiana Motrico Roque; wife, Helen Arias- Roque; son, Marvin Gregory Roque. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Bakersfield National Cemetery.
