Obituary

Martha Louise Epp Goertzen was born the third of four girls on December 4, 1922, in Shafter, California to Peter and Elizabeth Epp. Martha attended Richland and Maple schools, graduating from Wasco High School in 1940. On July 20, 1941 Martha and Wm Goertzen were married in the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. The Goertzens were married for 68 ½ years, and lived in Shafter all their married life, and they are the parents of four children: Chris Prine, Bill and wife, Rebecca; Deborah Ann and husband, Ken Janzen; Mike and wife, Terri. The Goertzens are grandparents to nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her daughter, Deborah Ann, preceded her in death. Martha traveled throughout the world with her husband sharing her love of the Lord, and being a hostess to many people in the different parts of the world to which she traveled. They lived and worked in Africa for two years as one of their extensive travels. Martha accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was nine years old and became a member of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren church here she remained a faithful member for the remainder of her life. Serving in the church she loved, she sang in the choir, and worked in any other area that she was called upon to serve. In addition to being missed by her family, she will be missed by the many friends with whom she shared her fruitful and eventful life. As the family members miss her here on this earth they are looking forward to sharing eternity with her in heaven where she is now enjoying the eternal life promised to her by the Lord Jesus Christ. Peters Funeral Home in Shafter is handling funeral arrangements with viewing on Sunday and Monday, December 13 and 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shafter Peters Funeral Home on Lerdo Highway. The graveside service will be held at the Shafter Cemetery on Tuesday, December 15, at 1 p.m. in the afternoon.
