Marta Cortez as many would call Mom or Grandma was born on July 29, 1938 in Monterrey, Mexico to Jose Rodriguez and Paulina Cortez. Marta dedicated her life to raise her family. She was a loving mother to 12 children, a grandmother to 28 grandchildren, and a great-grandmother of 44. Marta was a good and faithful servant to the Lord. Following the example of our Savior she was humble, gentle and loved all unconditionally. Marta devoted her time in prayer. Praying up to two hours, naming all her family members to the youngest child, she also prayed for the sick, needy, and hungry. Marta enjoyed playing bingo even if her family adjusted the game allowing her to win. Another joy was waking up early to go to yard sales with her family. When it became difficult for her to walk around she asked her family to gather items to make her own yard sale often pulling items back to keep for herself. Marta also took pride in her roses counting the number of times her grandchildren filled the water jug to water them making sure none were forgotten. Marta Cortez entered the kingdom of heaven on February 25, 2013. Martha is preceded in death by her sons, Arnulfo Cortez, Ezequiel Cortez, mother, Paulina Cortez, and daughter, Ofelia Cortez. She is survived by her sons, Jesus Cortez, Daniel Cortez, and Tony Cortez; daughters, Irma Rubio Olga Villagran, Mary Cosio, Yolanda Garza, Flora Alvarez, Sylvia Patino, 28 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10am at Jesus Saves Church in Shafter for Marta Cortez, age 74, of Wasco. Pastor Steven Seymour will officiate the service and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Jesus Saves Church from 2 to 8pm.
