IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marlys Annette
Arnold
December 16, 1946 – February 6, 2007
Words cannot express the sorrow we feel from the loss of our dearest sister, daughter, auntie, great auntie, and truest friend, Marlys Annette Arnold. She was simply treasured, and will be missed more than she could ever know. After a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma, she lost her fight Tuesday morning surrounded by her loving family. Marlys was born Dec. 16, 1946, three minutes behind her identical twin sister, Mayvis in Bismarck N.D., joining her identical twin brothers Johnnie and Jackie Arnold. She moved to Shafter, California with her family at the age of two where she was raised. She attended Shafter High where she was a majorette, tennis player, and voted "Most Athletic." She went on to attend Bakersfield College where she continued to excel in tennis. She worked for Tosco Oil for a number of years and more recently for Cox Communication as a sales rep. Her greatest accomplishment of all was her ability to reach out to others in need. Her desire to be helpful extended to many and the zeal she had for life was inspiring. She was especially good with children and animals and had a special gift for making everyone she met feel special. Marlys was cared for by several individuals during her illness, but her truest hero was her best friend, nurse and sister, Mayvis. The bond they shared was as strong as they come, and we are all so grateful for her unfailing love and the care she provided until the very end. We should all be so fortunate to know a friendship and love like the one they shared. Marlys is survived by her father, John Arnold and his wife, Gwen; and her children, Gary and wife, Pam Gottfried, Janie Gottfried, Lori and husband, Fritz Matthews; her brother, Jack Arnold; her sister and best friend, Mayvis Hackney and husband, Gary; her very special nieces and nephews, Johnnie Dean Arnold, Terri Gemmel, Tammie Arnold, Dale Arnold, Shelli Hill, Curt Maynard, Angela Arnold Sullivan, Janie Hicks, Cheryl Nilsson, and their families; the Jorgenson children, Lyndi, Melody, Eric, Kaylie, Jori, Jase, and special buddy Rainee; the weekend Get-A-Way gang: Janie Ohanneson John, Judy Whitson Rubessa, Tina Araujo Ericsson and Nancy Stepp Gaeta; Grandma Doris; and her dear friend, Rebecca Mallard. Her mother Arlette Arnold and brother Johnnie Arnold precede Marlys in death. A memorial service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home was held Monday, February 12, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Rio Bravo–Greeley Elementary School cafeteria at 6601 Enos Ln.. A catered luncheon was provided immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the SPCA at 3000 Gibson.
