A service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Lighthouse Christian Center at 5475 Sunburst Drive in Joshua Tree, Pastor Wayne Thomas officiating, for Mark Kevin Murphy, who died due to liver failure Jan. 22, 2009, at the University of California, San Diego. He was 47 years old. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wiefels Funeral and Cremation Services in Yucca Valley, California. The son of Richard Murphy and Audrey Walsh Murphy, he was born in Bellflower Sept. 18, 1961. He was a lifelong resident of California who lived in Joshua Tree 37 years. Known as a great man who always loved and provided for his family, Mr. Murphy cherished his only grandchild, Kaylie. He was a maintenance worker for San Bernardino County Water and Sanitation for 13 years. He is survived by his wife of 1 1/4 years, Christina Murphy, son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Theresa Murphy, daughter Kaitlyn Murphy, granddaughter Kaylie Murphy, sisters and brothers-in-law Colleen and Art Sampson and Carolyn and Den Winberry and brother Patrick Murphy, all of Joshua Tree, brother and sister-in-law Mike and Karen Murphy of Huntington Beach, sister-in-law Rosie Hood, brother Tom Murphy of Landers, stepsons Ian and Jonathan Barrow of Joshua Tree and many nieces and nephews.
