Mark Alan Montgomery was born July 6, 1951 in Wasco, California, one of three children born to Aline (Cody) and Charlie Montgomery. Mark grew up in Shafter and Wasco and graduated from Shafter High School with the Class of 1969. He went on to attend Bakersfield College before beginning his career as a firefighter. Mark recently retired after 32 years as a Kern County Firefighter working in the Wasco Station and Shafter Station as an engineer and member of the Firefighters Union, Local 1301. Mark loved fishing and had recently added kayaking and canoeing to his activities. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and nature. Mark married Mandee (Brooks) Byrd on July 7, 2014 and they enjoyed a loving and happy marriage, traveling and going on cruises together. Mark worshipped Mandee for giving him renewed faith in love after the death of his wife Deana Montgomery who passed away in 2009. Mark was also preceded in death by his parents, Aline and Charlie. Surviving family include his wife, Mandee Montgomery; son, Brian Montgomery; daughters, Christi Fain (Steven), Marshelle Montgomery and Melissa Byrd; brother, Bruce Montgomery; sister, Sharon Norman (Don); 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 31, at 10am at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter for Mark Montgomery, age 63, of Shafter who passed away in a vehicle accident in San Luis Obispo County on March 23, 2015. Cane Maldonado will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
