Obituary

Marjorie Josephine Turner January 11, 1924 – September 30, 2010. Margie was born and raised in Canton Ohio and graduated from St. John's High School in 1941. She worked at Spun Steel after high school. She also took flying lesson! Margie hoped to join the Army Air Force as the US was entering WWII. The flying lessons ended just before her solo flight much to her dismay, but her Mom's relief. After the war Margie met the love of her life Joe, while dancing the night away with friends. They married in 1949, and settled in Pennsylvania. With 2 kids in tow they followed a job lead for Joe and headed to California, settling in Bakersfield in 1954. Margie was soon playing and teaching bridge to the gals in the neighborhood which lead to many lifelong friendships. After raising their 3 kids Margie went back to work "keeping books" finally retiring from Meadow Construction in 1986, as she and Joe had great plans for traveling and seeing the world. Often these adventures were to visit family and friends across the US but they enjoyed several trips abroad making friends on trips to New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Margie was an accomplished knitter, volunteered 25 years at Guild House, loved to dance and was the best unpaid coach the Notre Dame Football team and the Anaheim Angels ever had! Margie is survived by her brother Dick, sister Anne (Tom), sister-in-law Ele, son Joe (Mary), daughter Susie ( Dave, son Tim) and Sharon (Joey, Bill, Duck), many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We have all been enriched by her smile and friendship. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be led by Monsignor Ralph Belluomini at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Friday October 29, 2010 – 11:00am for Marjorie Josephine Turner, age 86, of Bakersfield; A Memorial Mass will immediately follow.
