Marion Mitchell Stewart was born to Joel and Lula (Shaward) Stewart on May 15, 1920 in Manila, Arkansas. Mitchell married Dorothy English in 1937 and then heeded the call to serve his country during World War II. He joined the Army and served in the central Europe arena earning the rank of Private First Class and being honorably discharged in 1945. Mitchell and Dorothy moved to California in 1968 and made Arvin their home. He worked as a mechanic for Mazzie Farms for over 20 years. Dorothy passed away in 1977 and Mitchell married Ruth Freeman Franklin in 1978. She also preceded him in death in 1997. Music was a big part of Mitchell's live and he enjoyed playing the guitar and serving as the music minister at Church Marion is survived by his three sons, Larry and wife Celesta, Don and wife Connie, Rick and wife Jan; his son-in-law Michael Franklin; three daughters, Gladys Stewart, Sue Franklin, Jenice Stewart; brother, Ray Stewart; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Marion is preceded in death by his parents Joel and Lula Stewart, both of his wives and his daughter, Mary Franklin. A funeral service will be held at Arvin Funeral Home on July 13, 2007 at 1pm for Marion Mitchell Stewart, age 87, of Bakersfield, who passed away July 10, 2007 in Bakersfield. Michael Franklin will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District. A Visitation will be held at Arvin Funeral Home July 12, 2007 from 4-8 pm.
