IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie
Stuebbe
January 25, 1919 – August 22, 2012
Marie Stuebbe January 25, 1919 - August 22, 2012 Hermina Marie Grether Stuebbe, "Marie," was born January 25, 1919, at Neillsville, Wisconsin, to Rev. David and Anna Maria Grether. When she was six, her family moved to Indiana, where she attended grade school in a rural, one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1936. In 1940, she graduated from Mission House College (now Lakeland College) in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Marie met the love of her life, Rev. Calvin Stuebbe, at Mission House College and Seminary. After their marriage on June 14, 1942, and until Calvin's death in 1983, they served various congregations of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Reformed Church in the United States in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and California. Rev. Stuebbe's last pastorate was at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter. After Calvin's death, Marie moved to Bakersfield, where she was a faithful member of Grace Reformed Church. She was honored to be a pastor's wife and a homemaker. She was also a substitute teacher. Marie was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother to her six children and their families. She took great joy in her family and in its various activities. She demonstrated her trust in God's providence and her faith in His provision on a daily basis as she dealt with several different cancers and other health issues over the last ten years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit and keen mind to the end. Marie was always thankful that her Christian roots ran deep--her husband, her father, her father-in-law, her brother, both grandfathers, and both great grandfathers and several other relatives were ministers of the Gospel. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin, and her brothers, Frank and Rev. Jack Grether. She is survived by her six children: Judy Dunn (Gary) of Denver, and Carol Hall (Warren), David Stuebbe, Jean Larson (Gordon), Jan Stuebbe (Debbie), Evelyn Wegis (Robb), all of Bakersfield. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sisters Ruth Gress and Grace Ploeger, sisters-in-law MaryAnn Grether and Ellie Stuebbe, and many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank Dr. Florencio Pangilinan and Dr. Ravi Patel and the entire staff of CBCC for the wonderful medical care over the years. We are forever grateful. We mourn her loss, but we rejoice that she is now dwelling on high with her Creator and Lord. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15. Public viewing will be at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter, on Tuesday, August 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Shafter, with Rev. Tracy Gruggett officiating. Interment will follow in the Shafter Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Reformed Church, Bakersfield, or Ebenezer Reformed Church, Shafter.
